Mystic Rose: Straight from the Heart

I’ve never been to Morocco, but as a natural perfumer I often work with essences derived from flowers that grow there. One day, restless and needing a change of scene, I found myself daydreaming about the landscape where those lovely plants bloom.

In my mind’s eye, I saw a serene desert oasis with rose petals fluttering in the breeze, and the smoke of incense curling up towards the tops of citrus trees. On the far horizon, snow-capped mountains rose like a mirage.

Inspired, I set about creating a fragrance that I hoped would capture the feeling of that beckoning oasis in the sand. The result was Mystic Rose, a mingling of the foreign and the familiar that speaks directly to the heart. It cuts through the extraneous to remind us of who we are beyond our connection to any particular person, place or thing.

A modern fragrance built around a timeless essence, Mystic Rose is exotic and opulent, but also deeply comforting. Its spicy-floral scent is both sensuous and spiritual, as if to say that all expressions of love are but different points on the same map of the heart.

Mystic Rose Key Notes — moroccan rose · pink peppercorn · galbanum · cardamom · orange blossom · osmanthus · ambrette seed · east indian sandalwood · frankincense · myrrh

Fragrance Character — green, citrusy, rosy, spicy, musk, incense, precious woods

Moroccan rose is the main heart note and dominant energy in Mystic Rose. A powerhouse botanical, rose not only smells gorgeous, it also has significant therapeutic properties. Rose is an important essence in aromatherapy for its ability to open the heart and soothe inflamed emotions (among many other things).

Rose is also an aphrodisiac, and has been used since ancient times to symbolize and inspire love and romance. And in natural perfumery, rose is a sumptuous heart note with few equals (not for nothing is it known as the “Queen of Flowers”).

Because I use only pure botanical essences in my fragrances (no synthetic fragrance molecules, aroma chemicals or isolates, ever), Mystic Rose offers authentic aromatherapy benefits in addition to a beautiful scent. It contains thirty-five unique essences, all of which combine to create lots of positive energy for the wearer. Here are some of the therapeutic properties of four key Mystic Rose notes:

Moroccan Rose (rosa centifolia) — comforting, heartening, aphrodisiac, uplifting, pacifying

East Indian Sandalwood (santalum album) — relaxing, elevating, meditative, aphrodisiac, grounding

Frankincense (boswellia carterii— purifying, revitalizing, clearing, sedating, elevating

Cardamom (elettaria cardamomum— uplifting, refreshing, warming, soothing, aphrodisiac

So I’m sitting here at my desk, thinking about everything I have to do today and feeling antsy. I look out the window towards the far horizon, and spritz myself with Mystic Rose.

The sweet comfort of roses envelops me and soothes my restless soul. Tension leaves my body, my mind relaxes, I feel confidant and grounded. They say home is where the heart is. I couldn’t agree more. — Claudia xo

This fragrance really works for me. It’s rosy without being predictable or too sweet. It goes through quite a few changes from beginning to end. There’s an enticing opening accord of a very green note mixed with pepper and citrus. I love the scent of cardamom, and in this fragrance it adds a fresh twist to the rose and other florals. There’s a very nice musk note that appears after awhile. And the dry-down is beautiful — sandalwood and incense, with a sort of “campfire smoke” back note that’s unusual and mesmerizing. Mystic Rose feels deep and mysterious to me, and also very uplifting. Lovely.
